Trustee Laurie Larsen

Laurie Larsen – I have been resident of Surrey for over 60 years.  All my children attended and are graduates of Surrey schools.  I have been a trustee for 14 years and worked for the City of Surrey for 27 years.

The committees I have been appointed to are the Aboriginal Council, The Learning Liaison Committee, and Student Voice.  There are others I sit on as a Board member, and I have been the Board Chairperson for the last few years.  It is a role I have taken very seriously, and I have been committed to put the students of Surrey first during my tenure.

Unsurprisingly, our District has come through the most tumultuous last couple of years.  With the help of the superintendent and staff – including teachers, CUPE workers, administrators, and exempt staff – this Board has been able to have their District recognized as a leader in BC, and I am sure across Canada.  It has been a combined effort of everyone, including parents and students, who worked together to make students the number one priority and try to ensure their well-being, both academically

I would be honoured to serve another term as a trustee and continue my advocacy for the students of Surrey.

In my personal life I have struggled with poverty growing up and hopefully have helped students recognize the importance of an education and how teachers gave me a purpose in life when I really needed encouragement.

I would be honoured to serve another 4 years to continue my advocacy for all students of Surrey.
